The History of Riverford

Ed Schroeder’s father, Ed Jr, purchased the 150 acre farm in 1980 with the intention of future development to continue with the family business started in Toledo in 1946 by Ed Sr. A devastating barn fire on Christmas Eve 1989 moved up the developments timeline. Riverford began with a bang by hosting the Toledo HBA Parade of Homes in 1992 on Greenville Drive.

The Schroeder family’s vision was to incorporate Perrysburg’s history.

The name RIVERFORD meaning to ford or cross the river. With the Maumee River and Fort Meig’s locations it could be historically accurate that pioneers, soldiers and wagons had use the river bottoms as a crossing location.

The rich history of Perrysburg is continued in the naming of streets and architectural designs. Most homes have some sort of historic detailing. Whether victorian, colonial or craftsman all homes require the street-side to be of a natural products such as wood, stone or brick.

We are currently offering lots in Plat XI. This is our former ravine and pasture for cows and sheep who had entertained the neighbors for decades. Many homeowners can share stories of cows in their yards and rumor has it… once upon a time, a chicken entered a kitchen.

Now, the farm animals are gone and roads, utilities, and an EPA required retention pond have been added.
